A Celebration of a Milestone and a Travel Update
As I usually am when writing these articles, I am railbound. Although something is different this time, I am not in New England, I am not in the United States, I am not in North America, I am in Madrid, Spain, but not for long. After an admittedly not-so-pleasant flight experience and having to deal with the current rail workers’ strike going on throughout Spain, I am looking forward to my yearly vacation in Galicia.
On the less traveled side of Spain in the small notch above Portugal lies a beautiful maritime city named Vigo. When I was younger I was fortunate enough to make a great friend who called Vigo home; since then, I have made it a priority to visit almost every year. Not having to worry about hotels and accommodations makes planning a trip much easier, and a built in local tour guide never hurts.
Aside from my good friend, it was the natural beauty and architecture that made me enjoy Vigo and Galicia. The city outskirts are home to some rare accounts of Romanesque architecture and the city is built in a traditional mediterranean style with stucco roofing and thin streets. The scerene Ria de Vigo (Vigo Bay) lends itself to some of the most picturesque landscapes in Europe.
While not the style I am generally fond of, the region has some interesting fashion history as well. As I learned on my last trip there, the first Zara store was established not far away in A Coruña, and Vigo shortly followed. The parent company has a higher end subdivision called Massimo Dutti with contemporary styling that has a store on the high street.
After the trip to Spain there will be a few more stops in Europe, accompanying my grandparents on a small cruise line. Photos will definitely be imminent accompanying our next few articles.
As for what else has been exciting recently, I was happy to be able to compete on a crew in the 128th LYC Race Week Regatta a couple weeks ago. The Saturday races got stormed out so 4 races were pushed into Sunday. It was a long day for anyone who competed, especially those not based in Larchmont. The World Cup final match was also a great cap to the day. A magnificent final performance by Spain made for a great ending. I may not be a football commentator but I like to think I know a good match when I see one.
Other than the vacation and recent sporting events, TNBC has a big milestone to celebrate. One that can only be properly acknowledged with a large thank you to our readers. Over the past year TNBC has become an exciting creative outlet for all of us involved. We continue to look for more writers and editors to contribute, and we encourage our readers to reach out with interesting ideas or fully fledged pieces. We are all incredibly delighted to have the opportunity to publish articles appreciated by so many others.
TNBC currently sits at over 1200 Subscribers and 60 thousand total readers. The growth in audience means much more than you can imagine, and from all of us at TNBC, we could not be more grateful.
As for what we want to look forward to at TNBC, it is not necessarily growth but consistency. As people with other full-time jobs or university work, we do not have the capacity to increase the amount of articles we publish but with each bi-weekly cycle we continue to learn a little bit more about writing and editing. Our work has come a long way since the early days of this publication, and I hope it continues to grow.
While we would love to have brand-affiliated reviews and promotional products sent, we acknowledge that it may not be in our future any time soon. We hope that the status quo is satisfactory for our readership although–and this goes without saying–we always want to hear feedback. As this is a fashion blog I hope to not disappoint.
Currently I am traveling with vintage luggage pieces from Hartmann, including a rolling suitcase, leather weekender bag, wallet, and pebble leather passport book. I have really enjoyed collecting their older pieces of luggage which can be found quite easily in new, or very good condition.
I am wearing the button-down shirt I wrote about in my column 2 weeks ago with the green check pattern as well as a pair of linen-cotton blend trousers I just got back from the tailor. Covering this is a linen sportcoat that had garnered some criticism after the photography from our ‘Menswear Bible’ issue. As I wear this coat about twice a year, the label being Banana Republic did not bother me personally but it seems the folks of the internet had opined differently. Also I had recently noticed it had real surgeon’s cuffs, who would have thought.
