“Gateway Brand” is a good way to describe J. Crew. I have a few of their OCBDs. They were good for wearing to the office at the time, but I’ve since moved on to mostly J. Press OCBDs, and my J. Crew ones have been relegated to just wearing around the house. I like their Irish linen shirts, but they’re pretty much the only linen shirts I’ve owned so I don’t have much to compare them to.
It’s an interesting point what you said about how you notice the brands shortcomings now, and that you’re not sure if the brand changed or you changed. I could say that about a few things, myself.
Yeah. I worry J. Crew isn’t long for this world. I’m not really sure what will fill that niche, though. Where do 22 year olds go for their first-job wardrobes now?
